A.I.-assisted software development.
Architect-led. Not vibe-coded.

I build bespoke web applications, integrations and working prototypes for organisations that need real software fast — backed by twenty years of shipping mission-critical systems for NHS, banks, insurers and councils.

This isn't vibe coding.

Vibe coding usually means asking an A.I. to write you software, accepting whatever it produces, and shipping it without really understanding what you've shipped. When it works, it feels like magic. When it doesn't — and at scale, in production, or under load, it often doesn't — the failure modes are brutal.

I do something different. A.I. is a tool I use the way a senior developer uses a fast junior team: to accelerate the typing, the boilerplate, the first-draft tests. Every architectural decision, every security boundary, every line of code that reaches production has been read and understood by a human who knows how to debug it later.

How I actually work

What I build

Bespoke web applications

Internal tools, admin portals, customer-facing apps. The kind of build that used to need a four-person team and three months. I can usually scope one in days and ship a usable first version in two to four weeks.

Application development

Integrations & automation

The unsexy plumbing that connects your systems: API integrations, scheduled jobs, ETL pipelines, glue code between SaaS products. Frequently the highest-ROI work in any organisation.

Integration work

Prototypes & proofs of concept

Working software in days, not months. For when you need to show stakeholders something real, validate an idea before you commit serious budget, or de-risk a build-vs-buy decision with actual code in front of you.

Prototyping

Application development is the focus of the practice today — but the document-capture work that built it is still here.

Since 2003 I've designed and shipped over a hundred Tungsten Automation (Kofax) capture and automation solutions for NHS Trusts, multi-national insurers, retail banks and local councils. If you've landed here because you need experienced hands on a Tungsten TotalAgility, Capture, Transformation or RPA project — or independent advice on digital mailrooms, accounts payable, archive scanning or Smart Process Applications — that work continues.

Read about the consultancy practice

Twenty years. One hundred solutions. And a new force multiplier.

Working independently and previously for one of the UK's leading Tungsten Automation (Kofax) Platinum partners, I have personally designed and implemented over 100 production capture and automation solutions for NHS Trusts, multi-national insurers, retail banks and local councils.

That same delivery discipline now powers the application-development practice. Same architectural rigour, same code-review habit, same "will this still work in three years?" instinct — multiplied by A.I. throughput. The difference between software that ships in weeks and software that drags into months is almost always experience. A.I. doesn't replace it. A.I. just lets it cover more ground.

I'm Mark Ortiz

Founder & Principal Consultant · M.Sc., B.Sc. · Kofax Certified Capture Consultant (KC3)

I started programming in 1981 and have worked professionally as a developer since 2003 — twenty-plus years inside the Tungsten Automation (Kofax) ecosystem, with more than a hundred production solutions shipped across NHS, banking, insurance and local government.

Today I apply that same delivery discipline to A.I.-assisted application development — building bespoke web apps, integrations and prototypes for organisations that need real software fast.

Kick Technic is a one-person consultancy by design. You get me on every call, every line of code, and every architecture decision — not a junior consultant warming up on your project.
